Pest Control OKC has more tips to help pest out of your fireplace!

The Bug Guy, Pest Control OKC, is back with a few more tip to help keep your home free from pests that might live in your firewood over the winter.

Cover for the Summer: New firewood that’s been cut for the summer is a prime target for infestation. If you want to avoid having your firewood pre-infested in the summer, make sure you stack the wood in a sunny area and then cover it. This will help kill and drive out pest living in the wood and keep away pests that might try to take up residence. Always try to cut your firewood from late summer to late fall. Also, make sure your keeping in your state’s guidelines about cutting and transporting wood.

Never Stack Firewood indoors: In our last blog, we talk about why you should burn wood as soon as you bring it into the house. This is because of Overwintering, where pests hibernate over the winter in warm places. Keeping firewood indoors will warm up these pests and bring them out of hibernation and into your home! In addition, these wood piles will provide excellent security for any pests that get into your home through other means!

Use only local Firewood: Aside from being a great way to support local business, keeping local firewood means all the pests inside it are also local. Bringing in firewood from another area might introduce a non-native species to the area. With no natural predators you may see an explosive infestation that spreads to your home. To be safe, should you get non-local firewood burn it as quickly as possible to kill off potential pests.
