Pest Control OKC Helps Homeowners Avoid Fall Pests

A lot of people tend to love the fall with the colorful leaves falling off of trees, the tasty treats, and plenty of seasonal activities to be have some fun doing, but it’s difficult to focus on much else if your home has a potential pest problem. You may think that once fall has arrived that there is no longer a need for our pest control OKC services, but many pests still live on during this season.

The difference for fall months is that many of the pests you once saw buzzing around your yard will try to venture inside in search of warmth and protection to settle in before winter comes. Before things get too out of control (which can happen quite rapidly) you should consider contacting your local pest control OKC service team to help you.

A few of the most common pest problems in the fall months can include, but may not be limited to:

  • Stink bugs – They are resilient, can fly off to unknown locations, and give off chemicals to attract other stink bugs.
  • Some wasps – While most wasps are most active in summer they can survive in your warm home and be dangerous even if just accidentally provoked.
  • Carpenter ants – They can and will chew through wood of a home to build nests for their young.
  • Bed bugs –  These bloodsuckers can carry diseases, get into every nook and cranny of a home, and be very hard to get rid of.
  • Spiders – There are many male spider species that will become more adventurous and bite more often than usual as they seek to mate.

Dealing with any of the above mentioned insects or arachnids is not a pleasant thing for most homeowners. While some are more dangerous than others, it often takes professional assistance to rid a home of these small critters. Our pest control OKC team would be more than happy to help!

Pest Control OKC Answers Why So Many Pests Are Still Buzzing About

Bugs, Bugs, And More Bugs? Pest Control OKC To The Rescue!

Oklahomans all over the metro area have been having a lot of problems with insects still buzzing around and getting into their homes. Flies are particularly problematic even at the beginning of September. Reports of wasps, mosquitoes, and other insects keep on coming, but why? The answer is quite simple and our pest control OKC team is here to share more about this phenomenon.

When temperatures soar into the high 90’s or even beyond you will notice that insects manage to thrive. One example our pest control OKC team can think of is mosquitoes. These blood suckers particularly enjoy living in warm environments. Since insects are cold-blooded they actually handle the heat much better than the cold, but that doesn’t mean they won’t seek to get out of the roasting sun at some point. That point can be when warm, summer rain rolls in.

When this happens the insects survive as they will seek shelter inside homes, hide in shrubs, and some even hang around due to standing water from when the grass was soggy. Since the temperatures are still plenty warm enough, the insects have had even more time to breed, increasing the need for our pest control OKC team to put in some extra work.

Take a look outside and you will notice that most people still have the greenest grass they’ve ever had for a summer in Oklahoma! This is, no doubt, due to all the rain we received throughout the month of August. While it has made for prettier lawns, the back and forth weather fluctuations have not done homeowners any good as they have attempted to keep their yards, gardens, and homes pest-free.

That’s where our pest control OKC team comes into play! If insects have decided that your home is a perfect place to rest, please give our pest control OKC team a call. You can reach The Bug Guy 405-973-5522 to book an appointment.

Pest Control OKC Discusses Facts About Gnats

Pest Control OKC: A Little Bit About These Little Insects

Do you notice any swarming gnats around after your 4th of July holiday celebration? Gnats may not seem like a big deal, because of their tiny stature, but they can quickly become quite the annoying problem. Today, our pest control OKC team is going to share a little bit about these small insects.

Here are some facts about gnats that our pest control OKC team wanted to share with you:

  • Even as fully grown adults, gnats remain tiny. They are usually no larger than 33mm.
  • There are also a few different species of gnats; some that bite and some that do not bite.
  • Their diets vary from plants, other insects, or blood.

Some species of gnats are are helpful in pollinating plants as they eat other pests which seek to destroy crops such as aphids and scales. Others, like the Hessian fly, feed on the plants themselves.

The fungus gnat is well known for laying eggs in house plants that have been watered too much. They are attracted to soil, and the fungus in the soil. Furthermore, they enjoy feasting on roots and root hairs of plants.

The black gnat (also known as black fly) will feed on blood. These gnats have been known to carry parasites and transmit diseases to livestock and humans.

Our pest control OKC team hopes that by now you can understand that these little flying insects are capable of some destructive behavior. Moreover, due to all gnats being so small it may be difficult to identify which species you’re seeing.

If you have a swarm of gnats that just seem to hang around, the first thing you should do to help keep the situation under control is attempt to locate their food source and correct the problem. Second, it may be a good idea to schedule a pest control inspection if you struggle to get rid of the insects on your own.

Silverfish- OKC Pest Control

OKC Pest Control Team Answers Why Silverfish Are Harmful

OKC Pest Control Sheds Light On Silverfish Insects

Oklahoma, having a more humid climate than many other states, is known to attract many types of insects. One type of insect that loves warm places is called Silverfish. The most noticeable feature next to their silver to dark gray bodies is the three thread-like tails. The real question most Oklahomans ask our OKC pest control team is whether these insects are harmful.

The answer to that is a little misleading from some perspectives, because they do not actually bite or sting humans. They are also not known to harm any pets. Yet, our OKC pest control team will tell you that they are harmful. Let us explain a bit more about why Silverfish are harmful.

Silverfish like to hide in dark, warm hiding places like food pantries. Their diet consists of things like mold, yarn, silk, sugary substances, starchy foods, and damp wallpaper. They are also especially drawn to dry, starchy substances such as the glue the binds book pages together, boxes, papers, and even some clothing. Our OKC pest control members have even heard reports of people finding them in unopened food packages!

These are the several ways in which Silverfish can be harmful to homes, and more specifically, to items in the home. They are often considered a nuisance to many homeowners.

Have you seen any Silverfish around your home?

You may have noticed Silverfish skittering around in areas such as your kitchen or bathroom near the sink, tub, or toilet. If you see any surface eaten away in irregular patches this could be a sign that you have a Silverfish infestation.

Our OKC pest control team would warn that other predators like Centipedes, Earwigs, and some spiders are known to feed on Silverfish. Thus, if you have Silverfish you may have other things to worry about.

To protect your home and personal belongings from Silverfish, please feel free to contact our OKC pest control company. The Bug Guy can be reached at 405-973-5522.
