Fleas- OKC Pest Control

OKC Pest Control Eliminates Fleas For The Love Of Pets

OKC Pest Control: Disturbing Flea Facts

Polls have been taken many times in the past to reveal that more than half of pet owners consider their animal companions to be part of their family. Just like any other member of the family, it’s important to give your pets all the attention they need whether they’re sick or perfectly healthy. Just as parents would give their child vitamins to prevent a deficiency, so should responsible pet owners treat their yards for fleas to prevent their pets from becoming miserable. Our OKC pest control company would be honored to help!

You may wonder, “just how bad can fleas be?”

Our OKC pest control team will tell you it’s worse than you might think. Other than your pet constantly itching from flea bites, these critters can pose other risks, as well. Flea bites can cause your pets to have allergic reactions like swelling and welts on the skin, tapeworms growing in their intestinal tract, anemia from too much blood loss, and even Bartonella infection.

Our OKC pest control team finds the Bartonella infection (causing the disease known as Bartonellosis) to be most notable here as it can also be passed to humans. Symptoms of this disease in humans include fever, fatigue, headache, poor appetite, and an unusual streaked rash that resembles “stretch marks” from pregnancy.

Perhaps, just as disturbing as all of the diseases they carry is how long fleas can survive. Adult fleas cannot survive forever or lay eggs without a blood meal, but they may live from two months to one year without feeding! Furthermore, in just 30 days, 10 female fleas under ideal conditions can multiply to over a quarter million different life stages.

With that being said, preventative treatment is a lot better than a costly and time-consuming extermination process if your home becomes infested. To protect all of your family members, consider treating your yard to prevent fleas from taking over.

Fire Ants- OKC Pest Control

OKC Pest Control Team Warns Of Fire Ant Stings

OKC Pest Control: Making Your Yard Safe

Not many people would willingly allow themselves to be bitten or stung by an insect for the purpose of scientifically cataloging the pain into an index, but that is precisely what Justin Schmidt did in 1983. As our OKC pest control team has learned, a common person, like Schmidt catalogs the pain of a fire ant sting to be a level 1 on a scale that goes up to 4, with 4 being the worst pain. In the worst case scenarios; however, there have been plenty of stories of people who have had volatile reactions and some even die from fire ant stings.

Today, our OKC pest control team would like to share what we have found in regards to what is considered a normal reaction to a fire ant attack and what should be cause for concern.

What is considered to be a “normal” reaction to a fire ant attack?

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Itching

A fire ant sting often begins with a pinching or burning type of pain lasting anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Next, a person may feel itching or burning that may be mild or intense. The itching sensation tends to get stronger over the next few days producing a mark or wounds that are pus-filled blisters which are round and may look like pimples. Most stings heal on their own without treatment, but can be soothed with a cool compress on the infected area.

What are allergic reactions or more extreme reactions to fire ant attacks?

  • Vomiting
  • Severe Swelling
  • Dizziness
  • Disorientation
  • Wheezing Or Difficulty Breathing

Breathing difficulties, changes in consciousness, severe swelling, and similar symptoms within an hour of the sting require emergency medical treatment!

Keep in mind that children and pets can be at risk of being stung by fire ants in your yard.

OKC Pest Control: Telling Of A Termite Horror Story

Termite Inspections By The Bug Guy’s OKC Pest Control Team

To anyone buying a home should be a moment of joy, but for one real estate investor the events that unfolded during his first “flip and fix” home is enough to make anyone cringe. Matt Faircloth wrote about his eventful real estate journey (click here to read his full story) and among the many mistakes he made, he outlines one of them being the discovery of termites. Our OKC pest control team tells the story for you, today.

Matt Faircloth’s Termite Horror Story:

The first few mistakes Faircloth wrote about involved him purchasing a really old home. After some unfortunate events, the tax lien holder sued Faircloth. This legal action took place directly after the closing of the home, for something called “Title Raiding.” He had to go to court and defend himself, tried and failed to quickly flip and sell the home to another investor, and then failed to get a mentor; thus, jumping into dealing with the home on his own.

That leads us to the part where the roof needed to be replaced. Our OKC pest control team will give you three guesses what they found.

If you guessed termite damage, you’re correct! Faircloth had a team replace the old roof that leaked, but afterwards the roofers informed Faircloth that the roof joists had termite damage and needed to be replaced, also.

The horror came over Faircloth as he realized that in order for termites to have made it that far, they would have had to eat their way from the bottom of the home up to the roof. The whole house had structural termite damage! Right away a structural engineer came along with an architect to tell Faircloth that the house was beyond repair and that it needed to be torn down.

The Significance Of Faircloth’s Story:

Had Faircloth hired a professional (much like our OKC pest control team) to complete a full inspection of the home, inside and out, the termite damage would have been caught quickly preventing him from spending a lot of money for nothing.

OKC Pest Control: Termites Swarming Oklahoma

OKC Pest Control: The Risk Of Subterranean Termites

The official day of spring is right around the corner and for many that means something good as warmer weather and outdoor activities are in the forecast. Others dread the coming of spring, because that means pests like termites will be likely to be swarming Oklahoma. Our OKC pest control team would like to keep you informed of what to look out for as spring approaches and the risk of termites increases.

The main destructive termite species in Oklahoma is the Eastern subterranean termite, but there are a few others that can cause concern. In most cases, as per our OKC pest control team’s knowledge, termites in Oklahoma will begin to swarm on a warm day (around 70 degrees) after a rainfall. The specifics of the most common species of termites are as follows:

  • The eastern subterranean termite is known to swarm during the day from March to May.
  • The arid-land subterranean termite is known to swarm during the day in the spring and fall.
  • The dark southeastern subterranean termite is known to swarm in the daylight from March to June, and occasionally in the fall.

The risk of termites is considered significant in Oklahoma, but even more so after all the increases in earthquakes. Some sources state that due to the cracks in home foundations, caused by earthquake damage, that termites are finding an easier entryway. Our OKC pest control team wouldn’t want you to take any chances as getting rid of termites is vital to the ongoing structural integrity of your home.

If you notice anything odd such as a tube made of dirt extending out from cracks, near windows, or doors this could very well be a termite tube. If you see this don’t hesitate to call The Bug Guy, your trusted source for termite inspections and treatments!

We use Termidor, the industries best products to eliminate termites for good. We also offer a one year warranty on all qualifying homes. If you have suspicion of termites in your home or you just want preventive treatment, give us a call at 405-973-5522.

Bed Bugs- OKC Pest Control

OKC Pest Control Reports The Return Of Bed Bugs: Part 1

OKC Pest Control: Protecting You And Your Bedding

Our OKC pest control team is ready for the month of February and all it has to offer, are you? If you have bed bugs, chances are you’re probably not ready for anything except some relief!

The month for love and romance is no time at all to be getting bitten up by bed bugs! Sleeping soundly in a bug-free bed is something everyone deserves. The last thing you’d want your significant other or special sweetheart to notice is that your bed has been infested with bed bugs causing them to be dinner for the gross, little insects. Likewise, did you know that your guests could actually bring bed bugs with them? It’s true as they can be very good at hiding. Read on to learn more.

Are bed bugs even still around?

You may think bed bugs are less common these days than they were in the past, but our OKC pest control team is here to tell you that we’ve seen them make a big return! Older generations will remember they were a common occurrence before World War II in the United States and the epidemic seemed to eliminated for quite some time, but records indicate bed bugs remained prevalent in other areas of the world and that increases in immigration, travel, and restrictions on stronger pesticides have played a role in the comeback of these disgusting blood suckers.

Can you see them and if so what do they look like?

Bed bugs are tiny and they are very good at hiding in beds, dark areas, in luggage, and on clothing. If you do happen to see them they can be identified as reddish brown in color and even more red after they’ve sucked the blood of humans or animals. They also often leave behind evidence that they’ve been in your bed. Here are a few tips from our OKC pest control team to help you know what to look out for:

  • Bug skins or shells
  • Egg cases
  • Fecal stains on mattress, sheets, blankets, or pillows
  • Blood stains on sheets or pajamas
  • Sometimes a musty odor

As you can imagine, the thought of being bitten up by bed bugs isn’t very appealing. If you think you have signs of bed bugs in your home, please don’t hesitate to give our OKC pest control company, The Bug Guy, a call @  405-973-5522. We’d love to help protect you and your bedding!
